[ Here would be a description of how stressed and anxious Gaius looks, but a) when isn't he, and b) so is most of everyone, and c) he didn't even do anything apart from hide in his cabin possibly clutching a steak knife. He has his far share of healing scrapes and bruises, and is back into his cigarettes. ]

Are we missing anyone, after all that? I'm-- checking in about where Jesse Pinkman happens to be.

We arrived around the same time. Me a little afterwards. You know how these things are, strangers thrown together, and all that.

[ Gaius certainly doesn't sound the kind of dude interested in hanging out with the likes of Pinkman. And vice versa. ]

We're about as close to 'friends' as one gets, here. If I don't find out what's happened from you, I'll find out from him.

[ He doesn't know how to go on, which probably shows in his hesitant speech, but right now he just needs to talk to somebody, and he wouldn't want to divulge stuff about Jesse out to other wardens if possible. ]

I don't know if-- maybe... maybe you know about Jesse's problem. If you're friends.

[ Still he tries to keep it vague, just in case Jesse has been hiding the meth deal from Gaius as well. ]

My Warden's new too.

[ Gaius has manage to set aside his own post-Halloween distress to study Locke a little, but not. Uncomfortably. Just actually taking note of him enough for words not to simply fly through one ear and out the other.

Mostly out of distrust. But he says, a little cautiously; ]

[ John is equally cautious in his discourse. When he asks this he does it softly, casually: ] Really? Maybe I know them.

[ The only assumption he has about Gaius is that he's another inmate, sympathizing with Jesse's ways. Maybe he regards him in a fatherly way, maybe reminds him of someone outside. Either way, Locke clears his throat, and speaks carefully. ]

...he's not feeling that well. It's part of the reason I- we- decided he should stay there.
