[ Whatever one can see of the suite Gaius is in is predictably beautiful, as is the case for many that took advantage of the whole limitless funds thing. He looks like he hasn't sleeping, or has been drinking, or some other combination that makes for a considerably rumpled computer programmer. Anyone who has seen him, and will see him, will note he's been in exceptionally high spirits, but the hour has dampened this some into 'coming down' misery.
He has a cigarette that he is neglecting, and squints bleary into the journal. It's so late it's early. ]
Question. Only a short answer needed.
Is anyone experiencing your-- death tolls? The communications have been working swimmingly so I was just.
Wondering.
Cheers.
[ Aaand spam for Olive, Capa, and anyone else nerdily keen ]
[ Alright, so. Gaius is starting to get an idea as to the point of Paris, and that it was a city in a country called France, and that the "English" speaking thought them to be wankers, really, but gave them credit for all the art and the history and the. Coffee and bread, apparently, Gaius doesn't know, but he does appreciate the way everyone dresses, and he's tried to match it in sleek fitted lines and pinstripe. After letting Sarah Connor know the specifics of where he was going and how he wasn't planning to escape or anything, he's wandered out to learn about Earth via Paris.
Even if he feels awful.
The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie sounded promising and thus a message sent to Capa about whether he was interested in seeing it. After that, or before it, as you like, there's more cruising around the places one must pay to get into, allowing for chancier meetings of those of similar mind. ]

I dunno about the death tolls, but I'm still seeing shit, for whatever that's worth. The faceless dudes.
[Private]
I was wondering. And I'm still dreaming as I was. Suppose I should be glad it doesn't happen when I'm awake.
[ His gratitude is-- invisible to the human eye, if he has any. ]
[Private]
Yeah, no kidding. [He sighs, dragging deep.] Anyways, that offer of mine still stands, if you want it. I scored some grass the other night, too. That might help.
[Private]
Paris isn't so terrible, when I'm not attempting to sleep. It's a nice distraction.
But I'll let you know once we're back on the good ship.
[Private]

[Private]
But there's talk going around about how we got here - some people just opened a door on the Barge and stepped into Paris. Parker thinks it won't be any different for getting back on it. And you'll need doors eventually.
[Private]
Look, man, it's something. You wanna tell me your ass wouldn't rather stay here in civilization?
[Private]
It's almost exactly like home, too, this place. Minus lack of space travel.
[Private]
Or, hell, if we can stay here, we can go anywhere. England, Canada, back to the States... [He leans his head back, his voice sort of dreamy.] Santa Fe, maybe... I got good memories of that place...
[Private]
Manage to fit a lot all on one planet, don't you?
[Private]
Uh, do we? So that sci-fi stuff is true, huh, like alien planets aren't so, you know, multi-cultural?
[Private]
I don't quite follow.
We've cultures, of course, religions and status and-- just an immense population under a single governmental body. Whole planets develop their own walks of life as opposed to continents, though it isn't entirely uniform. But it seems you have it all on this one-- quite small, even, planet, and then some.
[Private]
Forget continents, man. We've got it in, like, cities... towns, even. Neighborhoods. Like... back in the ABQ, there's places you don't go, you get me? [Even though he's talking about racism and gang violence, he feels an odd stab of pride for the earth. Go, Earth! Diversity!]
[Private]
The Colonies could learn something, I suspect.
[Private]
[Private]
[ Even aside from robot apocalypse, civil unrest is a thing, political violence and a powerful military. Et cetera. ]
But the grass is greener, and all that. I certainly like Earth at the moment.
[Spam]
So when he received the message, he accepted it quickly, and made his way through the city to meet up with him.]
You seem to have adjusted well.
[Spam]
[ At least Gaius is being somewhat facetious when he says this, a hooked half-grin in accompaniment. He is also holding what appears to be a rather large cup of coffee and peering through the tinted glass of sunglasses, ignoring also the tour group trundling by like busy traffic. ]
It's a little bit terrible, isn't it.
[Spam]
But if you are, you hide it well.
[Spam]
Come on, let's get you one've these and you can help me get my bearings.
[Spam]
This place isn't difficult to navigate. It's behind my time, so it's more entertainment than anything.
[Spam]
In the meantime, Gaius shall enjoy his own. ]
So this isn't contemporary Earth for you? By my understanding, it's a little ahead of most, here. Not everyone's, mind.
[Spam]
But a different timestream, of course.
[Spam]
[ That's way more French than Gaius has mastered, the accent too foreign for him to do more than point at pages in his translator book and do elaborate mimes. Getting coffee hadn't been too big of an ordeal, at least, falling into step with Capa as they moved on. ] My Warden and her-- son-- who's on the Barge, by the way-- is all tangled up in timeline nonsense, and it hasn't even anything to do with the Barge.
It's a bit of a mindfrak.
[Spam]
It's difficult to think about, but if you add in the "twin" concept, it becomes even more tangled. Especially when they're not even here.
[Spam]
[ Sips coffee, pauses. Twin concept. Oh-- ]
This is where I do you a great discourtesy in merely guessing that Dr. Crane isn't actually related to you.
[Spam]
[Capa started forward slowly, not really heading in any particular direction.]
This okay?
Then Olive found a computer and searched around and shortly thereafter, she found herself outside the Musee d'Orsay. And oh look, a familiar face.]
Gaius!
IT IS TERRIBLE
Hello there. I was just thinking to myself, I needed an Earther for context that isn't a frakking tour guide.
SOB ;;
for shame e_e
[ Yep. He takes a last drag of ever present cigarette and drops it, crushing it out with the heel of a recently purchased and shiny shoe. ]
And if you can't guess what 'frak' means, there's no explaining I can do. In good conscience.
I am weak
I can guess, but it's kind of a stupid word. I was speaking etymologically. [But sigh she's heading for the entrance.] Come on, I'll pay the entrance fee. Van Gogh is a famous painter. He did some really incredible things, you'll love it.

I mean.
Good! That's wonderful. [ So unconvincing. ]
